Montessori developed by Italian Dr. Maria Montessori,The first woman doctor in Italy. Babies love to learn. She found that
children have an strong interest in learning and mastering everything in their environment, so Dr. Maria Montessori think if
given a choice,they will naturally choose activities that stimulate them and meet their unique developmental needs at a
given moment.She wanted to develop an environment to observe children’s behavior. It was the first educational program
for children in poverty.
The methods became popular in private and parochial school after 1950. Now there are 4000 Montessori schools in the USA.
There are about 7000 Montessori schools in the USA. Canada and Holland Montessori schools are Incorporated into public
schools.
The name of Montessori is not legally protected, unfortunately. It can be used by anyone without oversight. It is also a good
place to begin to learn about what to expect in a good Montessori school, and what books, toys, and materials are helpful in
carrying out the Montessori method of education both in school and in the home.
It is developing from Maria Montessori’s philosophy of human development.it promotes the child’s natural
self-initiative, the curriculum is divided into several logical areas.
(1) Practical life —where the child learnd to act and work on real life activities.
(2) Sensorial —educates the child’s senses.
(3) Math—help child’s development for gradual transition to abstract thinking.
(4) Language —child develops vocabulary and communication skills.
(5) Science and cultural science–helps child with clear thinking and approach problem solving.
During her forty years of working with children, Dr Montessori discovered
insights about the child and human development that continue to be borne out by modern research.
